Meet Me – Gary, Founder of The Bark Hut

Dogs have always been a big part of my life. Some of my best memories growing up are with Patch, my nan’s little dog and my first real sidekick. We were inseparable—dressing up, going on adventures, getting into mischief. He wasn’t just a pet, he was family.

Then there was Bracken, a big, gentle Border Collie who belonged to close family friends. We’d often look after him, and it felt like he was one of our own. Bracken had this calm, wise presence that made a lasting impression on me—and really deepened my love and respect for dogs.

In 2007, I rescued Dutch, my first dog as an adult. He came into my life at just the right time and taught me more than I can put into words. When I lost Dutch in 2015, it left a huge hole. But that loss also reminded me how deeply dogs touch our lives—and just how much they deserve in return.

In 2016, Kairos came into my life—now proudly holding the title of Chief Taste Tester at The Bark Hut. He’s been by my side ever since, helping trial products (and sneaking extras when he thinks I’m not looking). Then, in January 2019, Qannik joined the crew—Kairos’s nephew and, let’s be honest, our Chief Idiot. He’s full of energy, chaos, and character, and we wouldn’t have him any other way.

In 2018, during a difficult time with my own mental health, I found peace and purpose through walking dogs. That journey led me to start Little Large Giant Canine Solutions, my dog walking and training business. Over the past 7 years, I’ve had the privilege of working with some incredible dogs and their humans—each one teaching me something new.

Now, with everything I’ve learned — through joy, grief, and lots of muddy paws—I’ve launched The Bark Hut. It’s not just a shop. It’s a space created from real experiences and a lifelong love for dogs. Our focus is on natural, healthy products that help dogs live their best lives—because that’s exactly what they give us every single day.
